Now that you are curating a personal style collection, let’s talk about pants! To maximize your style options, I suggest you own the following three no matter what:
1. A Great Pair of Denim Jeans
My advice? Invest in one high quality pair of denim jeans. I know they are at least twice as much as what you would pay elsewhere, but they are so worth it! Go to a store that sells many brands and spend a hour trying on many different brands to get the perfect fit. Seek the advice of a sales associate who understands what a good fit is. Most premium denim has a lot of stretch so it’s important to make sure they fit snug enough so they won’t bag out in a couple hours. The brand I have the most luck with for my body type is Paige, but maybe AG Jeans fit you better, or Rag and Bone.
Because this will be an investment, choose a style and wash that is classic. Save the rips or raw hems for a less expensive pair and buy a skinny or a straight leg cut in a classic wash.
2. Black Leggings
I think it is finally acceptable to wear them in public in most circles! My favorite is made by Lole and it’s a cottony blend with pockets so it doesn’t look like I just came from yoga. They also have an adjustable hem so can fit shorter and taller people. I like that I can wear these with a sweater and boots for a classic Fall look, or with tennies and a denim jacket for running errands. They are also my favorite pants for wearing on an airplane because they comfy and wrinkle free.
3. Black Cigarette Pants
You should also have a pair of classic black pants that can be dressed up or down. They are as versatile as a LBD. Audrey Hepburn was known for wearing classic black cigarette pants and they still look just as chic.
